To determine the influences of the factors listed above on the distribution of the oxygen saturation in LBW neonates, we studied the relationship between the changes in oxygen saturation and changes in hemoglobin concentration. We performed near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) on LBW neonates. Two probes were placed on the skin. Changes in oxygen saturation and hemoglobin concentration were observed. We studied the changes in the oxygen saturation and hemoglobin concentration during the first 4 days after birth in 11 LBW neonates. In 11 LBW neonates, the changes in oxygen saturation were expressed as a percentage and the average was 56.7 ± 8.8% (mean ± standard deviation).
